W5: MEMORY, IMPROVING CONCENRATION & READING SYSTEM

 Assalamualaikum  HI! again👀

Tika here😉

Today I want to tell you what I listened to in UED102 class on 13/11/2020.

MEMORY, IMPROVING CONCENTRATION & READING SYSTEM

Our memory is using to remember what we are doing today, in the past, and in the future. That is why we need to improve concentration because when we concentrate we will remember it and that will be our memory. The reading system is aiming to understand the basic processes of memory and apply the memory skills in our learning.

What is Memory?

The retention of information over time or the mind store and remember information (mental/cognition) like computer software.

What is the Brain?

The brain is the organ-like computer hardware.

For example:

-Encoding/input (computer – keyboard, camera; human – the 5 senses; ears, mouth, nose, skin, and eye)

-Storage (computer – hard disk, thumb driver; human – 3 types of memory – SM, STM, and LTM)

-Retrieval/ output (computer- computer screen, printer; human- writing, talking)

The Storage (Retain Information)

There are three different type of memory:-

  • Sensory memory (SM) – the related memory that store the information temporarily. If one pay attention to the stimuli, it will to the short term memory (STM).If one does not pay attention then the information will be lost.

  • Short-term memory (STM) – STM is the process that can be accept and store the information in the short time around 30 second until 24 hour.While in the STM, information must be repeated or use some active learning strategies in order to get information to LTM, otherwise the information will be forgotten.

  • Long-term memory (LTM) – this is unlimited and large storage. From STM, information moved to LTM and stored here for later use. If the information is not being use for some time, forgetting may occur.

Reading / Study System (SQ3R)

SQ3R: Survey-Question-Read-Recite-Review

This strategies includes the following five steps:

Survey: As a student, we need to review the text to gain initial meaning from the title, subtitle, chapter introduction or lead-in, graphs, charts, pictures, or and end-of-chapter material.

Question: Try to form questions based on the preview(survey)

Read: While reading, we need to look for answers to the questions during the preview of the text.

Recite: Remember the main points and summarize the information.

Review: After finished reading the whole reading assignment, refer back to each heading. Recall the questions and try to answer them.

I think that all..tq😘
