W6: TAKING EFFECTIVE NOTES
Assalamualaikum HI! again👀
Tika here😉
Today I want to tell you what I listened to in UED102 class on 20/11/2020.
TAKING EFFECTIVE NOTES
-writing down ideas from lectures and readings in our own words.
- Helps us to pay attention in class ( feeling sleepy can be avoided)
- Helps us to study for quiz, tests or final exam
- Helps us to improve our memory
- Helps us take ownership of ideas
- Helps us engage our senses
- Helps us organize and process data & information
- Helps the lecturers test students on how well they captured given information
- We lose 80% of what we hear if it not reviewed within a few hours
- Identify any questions for peers, the next class, to ask the professor
- There is not enough time to absorb all the information given in class if its not reviewed on regular basis ( unless you’re some sort of genius)
- Always keep this in mind ” what if i were tested on this lecture tomorrow ? would i ace it? “
- Why recapture notes after class? its better than re-copying because it is the time for you to rephrasing and digesting on what you’ve learned.
BEFORE CLASS
- Review the notes from the day before
- Review your reading assignments
- Make sure you have all the essentials to jot down during class like a piece of paper ( a book would be even better but it’s all up to you), pens, text.
- Write the day and date at the top of your paper for notes
- Leave spaces between the lines so that you can add information later.
- Review syllabus
- Look up key words prior to class
DURING CLASS
- Be an aggressive, not a passive listener ( ask questions that you don't understand on a certain topic)
- Jot questions in your notes
- Make sure to write all the important notes/information
- Seek out meaning
- Date and label notes ( so you won't get confused )
- Leave some spaces to write and to add information
- Use abbreviations and symbols
METHODS OF NOTE TAKING
KEY ACTIONS TO NOTE AS YOU OBSERVE YOUR INSTRUCTOR
- Be alert to repetition – when an instructor repeats a specific point, make a note of it.
- Watch the board or overhead projector – if an instructor writes something down, the material is important.
- Notice the instructor’s interest of level – if the instructor is excited about something, it is likely to be on an exam.
- Let go of your judgment about lecturer’s styles ( teaching style and etc) – don’t let your attitude about an instructor’s style get in the way of your education.
- Sit in the front of the room – it is harder for you to sleep, the instructor can see you easily and can see the board clearly.
- Bring the right materials to the lecturer
REMEMBER SQ4R METHOD
I think that all..tq😘
